One of my old friend asked me "what does purposelessness mean to you? Can you be without any purpose at any point in time?"
This is what I replied. Although it is bit long and in English, still let me share.
"It is always a pleasure to hear from you.
A infant is ignorant, it doesn't have any purpose, it is mostly blissful or cries when in pain, it goes with the flow.
Dream state just flows, it doesn't have any purpose, it is some random happenings which comes and goes. In deep sleep, there is no purpose, no awareness and there is only bliss. All valuable experiences in life are timeless, causeless and purposeless.
The trees grows from mud and dissolves back, the waves appear and disappear etc. there seems to be no purpose of this. The birds are constantly chirping, air is making noise, etc there is no purpose. The nature exists, it doesn't matter if there is someone to appreciate it or have aversion, it is just existing without any purpose.
When the person is ignorant and has lots of beliefs, he has a purpose, which gives a direction to his life. Most people only want to meet their basic needs, protect themselves and their families, run away from misery, run after pleasures, have very strong ego etc. and die.
There are four purposes in that order of priority - meeting basic needs (ensuring security), enjoyment (pleasure, position etc.), doing good deeds (religion, values etc.) and finally seeking freedom from bondage.
Once the ignorance is removed, beliefs, bias, etc. are seen in their true form, then one realises their is no doer, whatever is appearing is only an illusion, a dream, actions happen but results are not in the hand of the one through whom the actions are happening, everything is just a play, there is nothing as right or wrong, there is no person, person is an illusion, whatever is is only me, it is my own projection that is being seen as changing experiences, there is only non duality, there is no evolution, whatever evolves will dissolves, only I am there and there are sequence of dreams, there is only timelessness, causelessness, spacelessness, the essence is unknowable, none of desires that appear is mine, all desires are already fulfilled as soon as they arise, desire gets fulfilled only where they arise, I am bliss myself etc.
Once this dawns, for this wise man, then what is the purpose in life. Ignorant has purpose, that purpose has no meaning. The wise man doesn't have any purpose, for him there is no purpose, it is just purposelessness, and there is lot of purpose in whatever he do.
I hope it makes some sense, or even this doesn't have any purpose."
